Class: 4 - Lesson: 4 Parts of Computer and File and Folder Operations

Purpose: To learn about the parts of a computer, internal devices and external devices, and how to use the mouse, trackpad and pointer. Students should also learn the properties of folders and folder operations (create folder, cut, copy, paste, move folder, restore, redo and undo).

    • Create a new folder on the desktop.
    • Rename the folder as "Asha".
    • Copy the folder.
    • Paste it in the Documents folder.
    • Open any picture folder.
    • Cut any image from the picture folder.
    • Paste it in the "Asha" folder.
    • Rename the image file as "Asha".
    • Move the "Asha" file to the desktop.
    • Delete the "Asha" file.
    • Finally, restore the file.

    1. Teachers should explain the parts of a computer first, and then teach internal and external devices.
    2. Keep theoretical sections such as types of computers and parts of computers light. They may also be skipped.
    3. Use the terms monitor, screen, keyboard, speaker, system unit, RAM, ROM and hard disk, so that students become familiar with them.
    4. Teachers should teach students to select something before it can be cut.
    5. Teachers should explain the methods of restoring files and folders - using Ctrl + Z and the Recycle Bin.
    6. Teachers should explain that the cut, copy and paste options can be used for images, files and folders, and also within a document.
    7. Teachers should explain the clipboard to the students. A copy action copies the contents to the clipboard, and a paste action pastes the clipboard contents into other documents and programs.
    8. Use the terms "Cut", "Copy", "Paste", "Folder", "Undo", "Redo" and shortcut keys, etc. while teaching, so that students become familiar with them.
